Information on JDIA SafeSport Polices

What is SafeSport?

Alaska State Hockey Association (ASHA) and Juneau Douglas Ice Association (JDIA) are fully committed to the safety of players and personnel both on and off the ice.  USA Hockey has adopted the SafeSport program guidelines to ensure that all members experience a safe environment.  Please CLICK THE LINK to view the USA Hockey SafeSport page.

JDIA has also adopted a comprehensive SafeSport program that clearly defines the process wherein the Board of Directors will examine any reported violations to the SafeSport policy, as outlined by USA Hockey and/or ASHA, and the potential sanctions for any instances that are found to be in violation of those policies.

Please note, if you are a 2006 birth year or earlier, you will be required to take the SafeSport Core Training or Refresher Course prior to participation for the 2023-24 season.

One of the most exciting aspects of the USA Hockey Safe Sport Program is the online training/education that is available to help our members become aware of the information necessary to help prevent abuse from occurring in our sport. We are pleased to announce that all USA Hockey registered coaches, officials, players, employees and volunteers are entitled to take the training at no cost.

The Safe Sport Training and Refresher Training are each valid for twelve (12) months beginning on 4/1/22.

As of January 1, 2018, all relevant individuals who need to be SafeSport trained or are seeking retraining will need to complete the new SafeSport training, which features updated content.

Once you have completed the Core SafeSport Course, there will be a Refresher Course available for individuals who have previously completed the core Safe Sport course and need to retrain. Users completing the SafeSport refresher course will be trained for an additional season. After completing Refresher 3, you will take the Core Training for the next season.

PLEASE NOTE that you will need your own USA Hockey Confirmation Number or Referee Number and your own email address to access the training. You can locate your number OR obtain a number here membership.usahockey.com. If you will not be participating as a player, coach or referee, you can register at no cost under the ice manager/volunteer category to obtain your USA Hockey Confirmation Number.

National Level Background Screening Policy

In compliance with requirements from the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC), USA Hockey has implemented a national level background screening policy, which can be found in full below.

NCSI began the National Screening Program for USA Hockey in April 2020.  While you may have a screening from before that, it was likely not with NCSI, please be sure to click that this is your first time screening with NCSI if your last screening was before then.

PLEASE READ: USA Hockey has already entered your self-registration ID number on the first page of the screen. You do not need to change this number.

WHO HAS TO GET SCREENED?
All adult coaches, officials, board members, employees, volunteers, and anyone else who will have regular contact with, or authority over, athletes under the age of 18 are required to submit to a background screen before any such contact with those athletes.

WHAT DOES IT COST?
Background screens through NCSI under the national program will cost $30 for all domestic screens. For international screens (members who have lived outside of the U.S. for six consecutive months in any one country during the past 7 years) the fee in $150. If that country is solely Canada, the fee is $75.

HOW LONG DOES SCREENING TAKE?
On average, background screens take between 3-10 business days to complete. There may be additional delays for, but not limited to, international searches, COVID-19 court closures, Pennsylvania document review and Massachusetts state document review.
